The winter mornings are cold here and waking up early while it is still dark outside is very hard for me. With a new schedule to follow and a small commute on school days, I often push the snooze button one too many times and bundle up for coffee on the couch a bit too long before starting our day. Which can lead to email checking, or a quick look through papers... ooops, now we only have 20 minutes to get fed and dressed! See how easily that happens?
One of the things I would like to work on this year is staying focused. There are just so many wonderful things to do with time... and putting one thing to the side to completely finish up another has always been hard for me. I like to bounce around. I multi-task and my mind spins with ideas and solutions, which can help in many ways with a busy business and four children, but it often shows, especially in my home.
So I have begun knitting my first pair of socks...because somehow I thought that would be a good idea even though I currently have about 4 or 5 other knitting projects left in the lurch.
The pull to stop and pick up one of those other projects is strong... but I'm pressing onward with my new mantra "Stay focused" in my mind. And the sock is actually beginning to look like a ...sock. It's quite exciting. I try not to think about the fact that I actually have to make another one...and that it may or may not end up being the same size.
So that's my knitting focus. My home focus has not yet begun... but I'm determined to get back into a good daily rhythm around here and give attention to many of the areas that have been neglected (like the laundry room).
I am also carving out time to plan our winter foods, activities, projects and festival celebrations both with my own family and in my childcare. All while finding some time to keep creating through my writing. Oh, so many beautiful and wonderful projects I have planned through Little Acorn Learning with so many creative mamas and papas. Ugh, losing focus again... see how that happens?
Ok, off I go... determined and ... focused
First I need another cup of coffee and maybe I'll just check my emails quick :)

congrats on starting your first sock!
May i suggest that you eventually learn to knit with the "Magic Loop" method (or even two circulars method)... this allows you to make two socks at a time (or even more if preferred) and your socks will, more than likely unless you REALLY screw something up, be the same and will be done at the same time! It is the only way *I* have ever made any socks. However, focus is a problem of mine, too--- i have a scarf, 3 pairs of socks, and a charity square all on the needles at the moment and have already begun looking for that special "something" i might feel like knitting in time for Easter. LOL
Stay warm!
Good luck on your sock! I've not tried knitting anything so difficult before. I know EXACTLY what you mean about having trouble focusing. There are so many interesting things to do and think about! ;-)
i lose focus on the mountain of projects in my head daily---er, uh--hourly. love what you're doing, though. it always seems to get better!
oooh! i love that yarn! what is it called???
Good luck sticking with your sock! I love the colorway! :)
