Welcome, Spring!

March

The Spring is near, I know it well
Though cold air wraps the town;
Though on the hill and in the dale
The shivering trees are brown.

Though birds are hiding still afar,
Though oak leaves rustle dry;
Though frost is on the pasture bar,
She's near! I'll tell you why:

A sunbeam gave a merry sign;
"Just follow me," he said;
His dancing eyes shone into mine;
I lifted up my head;

I looked across a vale of snow,
And there in hoods of gray
The pussy willows whispered low,
"The spring's not far away."

Birthday Celebrations

This past weekend we celebrate my two oldest daughter's birthdays. Dee is now fifteen and Keira is eight. I just cant believe how big they are getting and how quickly time is passing by!

We set up a pinata in the back for the children - they had so much fun trying to knock the candy out... it took forever and some adults had to step in to help get it going!

Lucky Day

Today we celebrated St. Patrick's Day at Little Acorn Learning. During circle time the children ran around the room to find GREEN things...

We read the story of Jamie O'Rourke and the Big Potato - We also played a game of hot potato :)

Then we did a few new fingerplays and songs to celebrate the holiday. During our activity time we made simple four-leaved clovers...

The children really love to use glue... they paid careful attention to where each leaf went to make their clover...

After snack, we went outside to try to find four-leaved clovers!!! We didn't find any but had a great time looking.
Keira left a trap out to catch a leprechaun and when she came home from school - the trap had went off and a MESS inside... the little green guy dropped a bunch of coins while getting away! Keira was so excited... and so sweet - she felt bad taking his coins so left them out to give back to him tonight. :)

Paper Plate Shakers

This week we are learning about Music, Sounds and Listening. Today we had so much fun at circle time doing an 'echo' song. We also played with musical instruments and made paper plate shakers. This craft was meant to be done with pie pans but I forgot to pick them up this past weekend. Just as fun! We also had a good time playing outside afterward...

Cinnamon Buns

Today we were snowed in so we spent the day (yes, it took the entire day when all was said and done) to bake Cinnamon Buns. We got SO much snow and the girls were really looking forward to playing outside- but the weather was freezing cold and the wind was strong so we spent time inside baking, coloring, crafting, cleaning and EATING! Anyway, here are some photos - I gave up sweets for Lent so this was torture for me... but the girls said that they were delicious...
