Acorn Necklaces

The abundance of acorns on our property is amazing. Now you can see where the inspiration for the name Little Acorn Learning came from.

Today during outdoor time Maia and I made necklaces with them while the babies played nearby. I used a small screwdriver to make holes in them and we strung them on a double strand of thread with a long doll making needle.

I allowed Maia to help with the stringing ... if you do this with small children - be sure to be RIGHT there guiding your child's hands, as they do not quite understand that the needle will come through the other side and get their fingers. Also, babies love to put the acorns in their mouth so we are very careful to keep them out of reach and the necklace will be closely monitored for loose acorns in the house.

So how many necklaces can we get out of the THOUSANDS of acorns we are getting from our 3 oaks this year? :-) My 7 yod will LOVE this idea. So far we are just giving away for squirrels and deer what our own squirrels aren't hoarding. Actually they are pelting our house all day long with them.

Very cute! And I love the cornhusk dolls also. We are reading the Little House books this year and have boys so I don't know if they'd participate in that. Of course I'm sure I could just dress them as boys and all would be good. Great job!!

What a great craft, we've been stuck at home and it looks like a great thing to do with my kiddos.

What a neat blog!!
I wish we had acorns! We have black walnuts everywhere!! The people who lived in our house before us thought it would be a good idea to plant them right next to the house. They are just now starting to fall on the roof with a THUNK and then roll out onto the ground. I think I need to try and get creative with them this year!!

We had the same idea, except I got it from my Grandpa. We made one too and we want to know if we should dry them out. Can you help us? Grayson (age 9)
