Outside Play

I took Keira and Maia outside today. I also let Maia hold her new dolly for awhile when it arrived in the mail today (it's really for Christmas but I thought one or two hugs couldn't hurt, then she got safely tucked away for December) - Keira had fun in the woods in the back, climbing on the rocks... I also took a photo of our hyperactive English Setter, Stoli ;)

Wednesday's Daily Challenge - October 26, 2005

Regardless of the weather - get outside today. Clean up the yard... go for a walk or run... take the children on a nature hike, etc. Collect interesting things you find for nature table treasures.

Windy & Rainy Day

Our power went out today for over 3 1/2 hours - here are some photos of outside - it was pouring but you can't really tell in the photos.

Pattern Practicing

Keira and I worked on creating patterns today. These are her Big/Small/Big/Small patterns :)

An Autumn Greeting

"Come," said the Wind to the Leaves one day.
"Come over the meadow and we will play.
Put on your dresses of red and gold.
For summer is gone and the days grow cold."

***Craft this week: Have the children spread shortening or peanut butter over pinecones or corn cobs and then roll in bird seed. Attach a piece of wool yarn and place on a branch for the birds to enjoy.

Nice Weekend

It's been a really nice weekend so far... last night my husband took Keira outside with the flashlight for over an hour... they had so much fun together exploring and hanging out in the play fort... my oldest daughter was helping me wind up some yarn while I worked on my scarf a bit. Then today, I took Keira to the Waldorf Fair... we had so much fun and met so many nice people. I've been looking into Lifeways training but now I'm seriously considering signing up for the part-time Waldorf teacher training at Sunbridge college instead. We'll see. I may call them again on Monday to see when the next session starts. My husband is supportive so it's definitely an option.

Here are some goodies we bought at the fair.... the mobile I bought for Maia broke on the way home so I am going to attach the people to a new ring of some kind tonight or tomorrow... I bought Keira some beeswax and she played with it as soon as we got home. She also got a beautifully scented wool stuffed star.

Dress Up with Ms Eileen

Here are some cute dress-up photos of me with a few of the children:

Circle Time and Free Play

A few pictures of my assistant and best friend, Kristin, doing circle time with the children - also some kitchen play this morning:

Yarn Goodies!!!!

We had a lot of fun last night! Here's what I came home with:

Mangos de Uraguay wool yarn (deep red), Another skein of the green angora yarn to complete my scarf, two skeins of Cascade wool yarn (grey and pink) and a pair of size 11 knitting needles. I'm not sure yet but I think I'm going to use the red yarn for another scarf (my knitting is still in beginner stages) and the Cascade yarn for crocheted wool longies for Maia.

Artistic Morning

This morning we listened to a Kindermusic CD and danced and sang - the children loved it! Then we made some artistic pumpkin scenes:

To quiet down we did Quiet Art... we turned the lights off and colored with white crayons on black paper to the sounds of soft music:

Eye Pillows

Today was a busy day - all of the school aged children were home for Yom Kippur so I had a full house. I'm exhausted.

To keep the older girls busy, I had them stuff eye pillows with lavendar and flax seed. I have been promising to send a new batch to sell at YogaSpace so it's about time I got some stuffed. Now, I just have to find the time to sew them up. Each girl will get one to keep for themselves for helping me. ;)

The Privilege of Running Water

We received a notice that our community well has been found to contain E-Coli. They indicated that until Friday we should not use our water to wash dishes, brush teeth or cook unless it is boiled.

So, I've had to boil water continuously to fill the sink with a dirty water area and clean water area to do my dishes. It is amazing to me how much water it takes to wash dishes, something we really do not realize when we have a dishwasher. Without running water to use, water has become much more precious in our house.... we aren't filling up glasses of water and then throwing them away because we are no longer thirsty. We are only using what is needed and saving the rest. We purchased bottled water and do not want to waste it. I guess when you have to "pay" for something it truly makes it more valuable. That's too bad.

It's a lesson to our family, really. And, we have a better understanding of the value of simple luxuries like running water.

Empty Doll Body

Yikes! I spent the rest of this evening, after tucking the kids in, working on Keira's doll. I ran out of wool stuffing when I got to the torso. I'm hoping someone I know will have a little extra to send me ASAP since I only need a little. I'd love to finish her doll this week. Here it is so far:

Keira's Waldorf Doll

I worked on the head of Keira's waldorf doll today during nap time. I had an easier time with this one than with the one I made for Diondra. That doll ended up with LOTS of mistakes, but still cute. I'll post a photo of it later.

Artwork in Progress

I have some strange art in progress right now. Here's the progression so far... I'm sure it will end up looking amazingly different from where it began...
